Teen Volunteering
Our summer volunteer program is taking applications until May 19! We are looking for teens, age 13-18, to help us create displays, put together takeaway crafts and programs, and even decorate for events. All dependable, responsible teens interested in earning community service hours or gaining experience in a fun work environment should submit an application by May 19 to be considered for the Summer Volunteer Program. We accept digital applications emailed to Teen Librarian Katie Beverly, or physical applications returned to staff members at the Library Services Desk.
Please return all applications by May 19, 2023, to be considered. The volunteer orientation will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 5:00pm, and the program will run from June 1, 2023, to July 31, 2023.
- I want to volunteer, but I don’t read a lot. Is that okay?
-
Totally! Although a lot of our digital content creators focus on reading and writing reviews, there are a number of options for those who don’t read regularly. Our Goodreads reviewer may focus on comics books, manga, and graphic novels, and our blog writer may review podcasts, movies, etc. The most important thing is to be passionate about the position you apply for and the content you create. If those ideas don’t sound appealing, keep checking our social media and website for the in-person volunteering to reopen.
- If I apply, do I have to volunteer?
-
We will assume anyone who submits an application is willing and able to hold their volunteer position for the times they have selected. If something changes before we contact you about a volunteer position, reach out to us and let us know.
- How long does the program last?
-
Our volunteer program is run by semester. When you apply for a semester (Fall, Spring, Summer), you will be a volunteer until the end of that scheduled time period. This information is usually on the application. At the end of the semester, if you would like to continue volunteering with us, please fill out an application for the next semester of volunteering.
- What if the program isn’t working out for me?
-
We understand that taking on extra work can be stressful, so just reach out to talk to us. We may be able to work with you if you need a slight break, or you can always apply for the next semester’s program. We do ask that you keep this in mind when you are applying, as we rely on the hard work of our volunteers.
- What happens if I don’t show up?
-
A lot of people are working together to help make Sterling Municipal Library the welcoming place it is. The first time no-show without notice, the volunteer coordinator will reach out to you. If the problem continues, the position will end and we will not consider any new applications for 6 months.
